NDIC - NASHIK DEFENCE INNOVATION CENTRE

Nashik Defence Innovation Centre (NDIC) is a not-for-profit Section 8 company proposed under the Companies Act, 2013 in Nashik,Maharashtra. It is supported by iDEX , Defence Innovation Organization (DIO) and Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

• NDIC is the second Defence Innovation Hub to be set up in India, following the announcement of the Defence Innovation Organisation set up under iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence).

• NDIC is a key contributor to the Defence Procurement while also enabling the MSMEs of this region to become import substitution partners to the defence sector in future. It is in line with the Start- up India Movement of the Government of India, to nurture the start-ups and handhold them till they graduate.

Methodology of NDIC:

NDIC Shall interact with the Ministry of Defence and identify the requirement of the Defence forces and Defence PSU's

• DPSU's shares their requirements for indigensiation items, challenges and innovations and future needs through Srijan Portal and their respective websites.

As per IDEX framework

• Communicate with MSMEs, Start-Ups and the others industries, regarding defence and aerospace needs.

• Provide all Research and Development support.

• Provide Prototype Development support.

• Provide Support for Testing.

• Facilitate, scale-up the indigenization and integration in manufacturing facilities for successfully piloted technologies.

• Indigenisation of various defence and aerospace related items.

• Co-Innovation/co- creation- Discovery and exploration of existing technologies, or development of relevant technologies.


• To start with, a comprehensive research was carried out to understand the technological requirements of Indigenisation in defence sector .To validate the facts, the team is continuously doing a detailed primary research, which included communication with DPSU’s with the help of Srijan Defence Portal and respective websites.

• Discussions with various association MSME members were carried out to develop better understanding of the requirements and expectations from the proposed Nashik Defence Innovation Centre (NDIC).

• Discussions with Defence officers/iDEX team to understand the various insights with respect to the Indigenisation requirements.

• The objective of this primary research was to understand Product requirements, issues, challenges, and future requirements of the Defence sector to become Aatmanirbhar.

• We are planning to Publish E-Newsletters and circulate to all industry members to create awareness about the requirements of defence sector.

• Once MSME selects the Items for Indigensation and Development,We will provide Handholding Support as per iDEX Framework,DAP Procedures and MOD guidelines.

• Centre will provide all extended support to MSMEs/Startups/Innovators/Academia for following activities:

  • Reverse Engineering
  • Simulation
  • Soft Testing
  • Prototype bulid
  • Proto test
  • Expert guidance
  • Co-ordination with all respective DPSU’s

Objectives of NDIC:

• To establish and run Defence Innovation Centre for Indigenisation of various Defence and aerospace related products and to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in India to cater to defence and aerospace sectors.

• To identify the requirement of Defence Forces and Defence Public Sector Units (DPSUs) and develop the products required including Design Validation, Prototype Building, Product Validation and Testing of products with the support of Defence Public Sector Units (DPSUs) and to create necessary infrastructure to innovate, develop, evaluate, and test the products and services developed for the Defence and aerospace sectors.

• To promote and establish world class incubation centre with suitable physical infrastructure and operating facilities, affiliations with sectoral experts and to Enable support ecosystem for incubated startups.

• To Encourage innovation in the Indian ecosystem through events and industrial programs/workshops, Provide training's and mentorship to entrepreneurs, Forge partnerships and networks with academia, industry, funding sources, existing incubators and others for the start-ups to leverage and to Encourage creation of new technologies and intellectual property.

Support at NDIC:

  • Coordination of requirements and project management for indigenous development among all armed forces, DPSUs, and regional SMEs.
  • Memberships, News Letters, and Events are used to reach out to all MSME members.
  • Collaboration with military units, other industrial bodies, academic institutions, and industries.

  • NDIC accelerates the innovation in global and defence applications.
